Four persons were reported dead on Tuesday with 12 others injured in an accident involving a Mazda bus and an Howo truck at the Oniworo turning, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Ahmed Umar, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abeokuta.

Umar stated that the accident, which occured around 10:55am, was caused by excessive speeding and loss of control on the part of the Mazda bus driver, marked APP 111 XM.

He explained that the tanker, with no registration number, was trying to make a u-turn when the bus rammed into it.

The FRSC sector commander stated that a total of 16 people – 13 men and three women – were involved in the accident.

“A total of 12 people were injured, comprising nine male and three female adults.

“The four deaths recorded from the crash were all male adults,” he said.

Umar said that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, and IDERA hospital, Sagamu, while the deceased were deposited at FOS Ipara Morgue.

The FRSC boss cautioned motorists against speed violation, while urging the families of the victims to contact the Corps for further information.
