A group of members of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State under the aegis of The Progressive Frontliners has appealed to leaders of the party to allocate the 2026 governorship ticket of the APC to Osun West Senatorial District in the state.
It stated that zoning the governorship ticket to the district would not only correct the agelong political injustice that the zone has suffered since the creation of Osun, but it would also boost the chances of the party in wrestling power from the incumbent government.
Addresing a media briefing in Osogbo on Friday, the members of the group, led by their coordinator, Ajijola Ayodeji, charged leaders of the opposition party to heed their demand, adding that if a candidate emerges from Osun West, it would be easier for APC to defeat Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Ayodeji described Osun West as appropriate zone to oust the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, reiterating the need for the leadership of APC to consider Osun West in its collective bid to reclaim Osun from the grip of PDP in 2026.
Disclosing the readiness of members to actively engage with communities across the state in the coming months, TPF coordinator charged APC leadership to give Osun West a special consideration in the spirit of egalitarianism and fairness, being a region that has never been favoured with producing a governor since its inception.
He said, “The West agenda having started to gain momentum is the only aspiration that if considered, can be referred to as being built on a pedestal of the principles of inclusion, equity and fairness. Our members just like the majority of Osun people, firmly believe that the Osun West senatorial district has numerous people of needed potentials and popularity that can ensure APC win the 2026 gubernatorial election.”
“Historical precedents from other states demonstrate that respecting zoning arrangements fosters trust and continuity, which are imperative for long-term party stability. Our decision can set a powerful example, reinforcing the APC as a party that listens and responds to the needs of its constituents.
“As we stand at the cusp of a new chapter in our state’s political journey, let us seize this opportunity to reinforce the collaborative spirit within the party and uplift regions that have been sidelined. By doing so, we pave the way for a harmonious and prosperous future for every citizen of Osun State,” Ayodeji stated.
