The Peoples Democratic Party has said that plans are on by the party to present a credible candidate with high integrity and clean track record for acceptability to the electorates ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The major opposition political party, however, admonished Nigerians to be patient and remain hopeful that the country would be rescued from the current challenges.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Diran Odeyemi, in an interview with The Point, said that the party would ensure that a candidate with unblemished reputation would fly the party’s flag in the presidential poll.
According to him, the ruling All Progressives Congress no longer had the prospect of winning elections in the country in the future. This, he said, was why the lawmakers voted against electronic transmission of results.
“Nigerians won’t allow the APC to deceive them again. For us to have a free and fair election in this country, the legislature should review their decision because that is the only way to show Nigerians that the country is truly ready for a transparent election,” added.
He stressed further that the citizens were experiencing hardship under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led adminstration.
“We (the PDP) have our manifestos and strategies and we are looking for a candidate that will have won the election 50 per cent based on his integrity and personality. In all ramifications of governance, things are bad. In the area of security, we are seeing the worst,” Odeyemi stressed.
