The Forum of former Parliamentarians in Ebonyi State has adopted Governor David Umahi to run as a presidential hopeful in 2023.
Premising their decision on the scorecard of his administration, the former federal and state lawmakers in the state said that Governor David Umahi was the best man for the job.
They adopted him as a credible candidate for the race pursuant to a recent motion by Mathias Adum, a Third Republic lawmaker who represented the old Abakaliki Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, during their recent meeting in Abakaliki.
Adum said that Umahi deserved the support of all for the number one position, stressing, “We have a lot from Governor David Umahi, and I think we need to celebrate him and pray God to support him in his development strides. We should back him based on what he has achieved and the love we have for him, and because in the comity of the 36 states, including Abuja, every state is trying to survive in this competition.
“Whether it is economic competition, political struggle, social interaction, religious powers, Ebonyi needs to be number one and the governor has done us proud. Those of us who were derided as ‘Ndu Wawa,’ I think the story has now changed, courtesy of David Umahi.
“We have a duty to project one of our own to lead this country because others had been leading. From Sokoto we had Shagari, In Katsina we had both Yar’Adua and the incumbent President, Mohammadu Buhari. In Plateau, Yakubu Gowon. In Niger State, we had both Abdusalam Abubakar and Ibrahim Babangida. How do we project Ebonyi?
“I want to move a motion that this house adopts David Umahi and urge him to go for Presidency in 2023 to represent the South-East extraction.”
The motion was seconded by former member of the 5th Ebonyi State House of Assembly, who represented Ishielu South Constituency, Julius Nwokpor.
The motion was unanimously adopted by the forum.
