Apparently disturbed by the return of armed banditry to Zamfara State, the governorship candidate of the National Rescue Movement in the state, Senator Saidu Mohammed Dansadau, has warned that the development may affect the conduct of the 2019 general elections in the state.
Dansadau said that unless something urgent was done to address the problem, the participation of the electorate in the state in the 2019 general elections might be a mirage.
The former lawmaker, who expressed worries over the resurgence of rampant cases of armed banditry attacks in the state said in Gusau, “This would be a major threat to free and fair elections during the forthcoming 2019 general elections.”
According to him, the resurgence of armed bandit attacks would only set the state backwards after enjoying some relative peace, following the massive containment of those terrorising the state by the
military.
“The state has enough issues at hand as regards insecurity and incessant killings due to banditry. We need peaceful democratic process in order to maintain the relative peace our people have started to enjoy,” he said.
He, therefore, urged all politicians in the state to rein in their supporters so as to ensure a peaceful conduct of the 2019
elections.
On his plans for the state if elected governor, Dansadau said he would promote agriculture and mining to generate employment and revenue for the development of the state.
According to him, the NRM had designed a blueprint on how to develop all sectors of the economy to ensure enhanced growth and development.
The governorship candidate called on the people of the state to give him their support in the forthcoming general elections.
