The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun has said that the current crisis rocking the state chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress will be to its advantage in the 2019 general elections

The PDP said that the current situation of things in the ruling APC would make it easier for the main opposition party to return to power in the state after next year’s
 elections.

The party said that the decision of Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s anointed governorship candidate, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade, to defect to the Allied People’s Movement, following the crisis that hit the ruling APC after its gubernatorial primary in the state and the choice of Mr. Dapo Abiodun by the APC National Working Committee was an indication of a clear victory for the opposition party in
2019 election.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our correspondent, the State Secretary of the PDP, Alhaji Semiu Sodipo, maintained that the crisis in the APC would be of benefit on the side of his party and would enable it to win the various elective offices in the forthcoming elections in the state.

Sodipo boasted that despite the power of incumbency enjoyed by Governor Amosun, his anointed governorship candidate, Akinlade, who is the lawmaker currently representing Egbado South and Ipokia Federal Constituency and the Federal might that might be deployed, the PDP remained the party to beat in the state in the 2019
 elections.

The PDP state secretary, who described Akinlade as too weak to mount the highest seat of power in the state, urged Amosun not to waste his resources on his anointed governorship candidate, saying his new party, All Peoples Movement, lacked any political structure, adding that without any support from the APC he was bound to lose in the forthcoming elections.

He explained that with all the Federal might, the APC governorship candidate, Abiodun, would still lose his chances to become the next governor of the state as lack of support by the incumbent governor would affect him, thereby giving his party, the PDP, an edge to achieve victory in the 2019 elections.

Okanlawon said, “Of course, the election will be of benefit to PDP. When the governor is on one side and the members are on the other side, that will reduce the power of incumbency. Even without the crisis, we will defeat them and with the crisis now, it makes it easier.

“The crisis is good for PDP, it is to the advantage of PDP. The fact remains the Governor Amosun will be putting all his resources on  Akinlade in the APM not in APC. The power of incumbency will be thrown behind weak Akinlade without any backing from the party. The backing of the party will be for Dapo Abiodun and the power of incumbency will be for Akinlade.” But the state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Wole Elegbede, said that he had not comment on the crisis rocking his party and the defection of Akinlade to the
APM.
