…rallies support for Buhari’s re-election

Nasarawa State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, has said that he has not anointed any particular governorship aspirant as his successor in 2019.

Governor Al-Makura said that he had no special candidate among all the aspirants vying for the governorship ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state in the 2019 governorship election.

I have no candidate among you

He assured that a level playing field would be given to all the governorship aspirants in the state to prove themselves during the governorship primary election for the selection of the party’s standard bearer in next year’s election.

The governor stated this during a meeting at the Government House in Lafia, the state capital, with all APC lawmakers from the state in the House of Representatives and the Senate; the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Usman Jibrin; the National Vice Chairman of the APC in the North Central, Suleiman Ahmed Wambai; all the 22 members of the state House of Assembly; members of the APC state executive; all local government council chairmen in the state and all the APC governorship aspirants in the state.

He, however, enjoined all the APC governorship aspirants to rally round whoever amongst them eventually emerged the party’s standard bearer for the 2019 polls.

The governor also warned all the aspirants to ensure that they did not allow their aspiration to divide the people of the state.

“I have no candidate among you, and who ever emerges should have the support of all and sundry. Therefore, you should all play the game according to the rules to ensure peaceful co-existence among the people of the state. Leaders have the responsibility to ensure peace among their people,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the governor said that the meeting was summoned primarily to forge unity amongst all the political leaders in the state and to also brainstorm on the way forward in ensuring the re-election of President Muhammadu Buahri and the APC in 2019.

He assured the President of the total support of the people of Nasarawa State and called on all to be resolute, committed and faithful towards ensuring the overall success of the President in the 2019 general elections.

According to Governor Al-Makura, “I admonish you all to be resolute and committed to ensure that the President’s dream of continuation becomes a reality in the 2019 general elections.”

Also speaking, the Senator representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, decried the action of all the lawmakers and other party chieftains, who recently defected from the ruling APC.

Adamu said that the defectors were made up of only politicians, who were unnecessarily jealous and had no love for the progress of
Nigeria.

The former governor said he was ashamed with the way and manner the defectors acted, stressing that they had already foreseen their defeat in the forthcoming rounds of elections.
