The Chairman, Local Organizing Committee of the 2018 National Sports Festival (NSF), Gambo Ahmad, has revealed that golf and aquatic sports facilities are top-class and were even ready before the opening ceremony of the Games on December 6 in
Abuja.
Following the release of funds by the Federal Government, Gambo said renovation works on selected facilities were completed on schedule and added that golf and aquatic sports will hold at IBB Golf Course and Jabi Lake respectively.
“We have made the IBB Golf Course ready on time in collaboration with the IBB Golf Club. The Jabi Lake and Park which is up to international standard is ready for the festival.”
The top-class facilities in these events are expected to bring out the best from the athletes featuring from the various states.
Gambo who doubles as the Director of Facilities in the Ministry of Youth and Sports stressed that initial priority in terms of renovations were placed on the athletics tracks, Indoor Sports Halls located at Package B of the National stadium and the open courts for basketball, handball and volleyball.
Meanwhile, action began in several sporting events at the 19th National Sports Festival which had majority of the states in attendance and it is expected that lots of records will be shattered, while new ones will be set before the close of events on December 16.
