DETECTIVES have launched a murder investigation after a 19-year-old man was shot dead in broad daylight in north London.

The Met Police say a teen was found with a gunshot wound to his head and rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Emergency services were called to Hornsey Rise Gardens in Crouch End at 4.24pm on Tuesday after police received reports of gunshots in the area.

Locals claimed residents tried desperately to save the teen as he lay at the entrance to an alleyway bleeding heavily.

An investigation has been launched by detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who are appealing for information from the public over the boy’s death.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon, a police spokesman said.

He is in custody at a north London police station, the force added.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course, the Met said.

Photographs from the scene, located in between the boroughs of Islington and Haringey, showed a discarded rental bicycle wedged between two parks cars sitting behind police tape.

A local resident told My London: “I heard three loud bangs from the alley and then people running up the alley shouting at around 4.30pm.

“I thought it was just kids messing around and wasn’t going to go out but decided to have a look.”
