On-air personality and gospel singer, Sabina Umoren, just concluded the final burial rites of her mother, who died three months ago, on Sunday.
To honour the departed, family members unveiled The Alfred Winifred Women Foundation, launched in honour of their parents in Lagos during the week.
Sabina, who is the last child of the family, told our correspondent that the initiative to set up a foundation to cater to women is a collective effort by family members but she is being used as the face because she is in the media
“We decided to do this because we were blessed with wonderful parents and we are glad to be raised by them. People always say you don’t know the value of what you have until you have lost them. We keep saying it but I don’t think the revelation hits us as much until one experiences it.
She said, “My dad passed on 10 years ago while my mother died over two months ago. Her burial was concluded on Sunday, we lived very well with them. My father died a retired principal and reverend and my mum died a retired teacher. We are eight children and everyone had sound upbringing. Today, I know how much people struggle to bring up two children.
“We think they lived a life worth celebrating and we want to be part of the blessing they left behind by reaching out to people. My father was not a billionaire or businessman, but we can call him a rich man because of the number of people he trained. We can call my mum a rich woman too because of the people she trained, clothed and fed while she was alive.”
